Foreign Secretary Ebrard attended USMCA signing in Washington: "A new phase begins"
The Mexican Foreign Secretary attended the ratification of the treaty by the President of the United States. "Uncertainty over the economy concludes," he said.

Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard attended the signing ceremony of the USMCA led by U.S. President Donald Trump, and celebrated the ratification of the trilateral agreement by calling it the "beginning of a new phase".

"President Trump is signing the USMCA at this moment. The period of uncertainty for our economy is coming to an end. Once the Canadian parliament approves it, a new phase will begin for the three countries," the secretary said on his Twitter account.

Ebrard, who traveled to Washington on Tuesday with Economy Secretary Graciela Marquez, also shared a photo of President Trump signing the approval of the treaty in the gardens of the White House, surrounded by his cabinet and Republican legislators.

Vice President Mike Pence also used social media to boast about the ratification of the successor to NAFTA.

"This is a great day for American workers and American farmers because thanks to President Donald Trump's leadership, NAFTA ends today and a new era of jobs and growth begins under the USMCA!", the Vice President said.

The event took place while, a few meters away at the Senate, the trial against Trump for the Ukraine scandal went on.

A few minutes before the ceremony, Trump held a press conference in which he highlighted his "incredible friendship" with President López Obrador and praised the work of Ebrard, as well as that of Márquez and chief negotiator Jesús Seade, in bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion.

It is also expected that the Canadian government will present the project that will be voted at the Upper House to ratify the USMCA, something that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described days ago as "a priority".
