Argentina's Alberto Fernández met with the President of Israel and Vladimir Putin
He participated in the dinner offered by Reuven Rivlin. On Thursday he will meet the Russian leader.

President Alberto Fernández attended the dinner offered by his Israeli counterpart, Reuven Rivlin, in Jerusalem, in honor of the heads of State present at the "75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz - Birkenau".

At the reception, the Argentine president shared with his French counterparts, Emanuel Macron; from Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as the kings of Holland and Spain, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and about thirty heads of State.

During the event, a video related to the commemoration was screened. The President of Israel delivered a welcome speech, which was followed by a musical presentation.

The gala, headed by the Israeli president, who is the official host of the events within the framework of the Fifth World Forum on the Holocaust, also featured remarks by King Philip of Spain on behalf of the delegation of leaders and a lecture by Professor Yehuda Bauer, a scholar on the subject of the Holocaust.

The evening began with a reception of honor, where Reuven Rivlin welcomed each of the guests at the entrance to the Residence with a handshake. The leaders then proceeded to the reception tent and from there continued to their seats at the gala table for the start of the dinner.

Rivlin began his speech with great enthusiasm: "In the name of the State of Israel and the people of Israel, welcome to Jerusalem! Thank you all for coming. This is an historic meeting, not only for Israel and the Jewish people, but for all of humanity. Tonight, as we remember the victims of the Holocaust and the Second World War, we also mark the victory of freedom and human dignity. "Tomorrow, we will gather at Yad Vashem to remember and to ensure that it never happens again. Yad Vashem is a leading institute for Holocaust research and education led by historians. Historical research should be left to historians. The role of political leaders is to shape the future. "This meeting is an expression of our shared commitment to pass on the historical facts and lessons of the Holocaust to the next generation," he said.

"The future lies in the choices we make together, as countries and nations," the President emphasized, and closed his speech with the hope that a uniform message for all humanity will emerge from this room: "That world leaders are united in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and extremism, in the defense of democracy and democratic values is our challenge, it is our choice".

On Thursday, the delegation will move to the Yad Vashem museum, built to commemorate the Holocaust. Fernández is expected to have a conversation with Putin as they walk.
