Bolsonaro calls Biden a "leftist" and says he has an obsession with the environment
Jair Bolsonaro accused his American counterpart, Joe Biden, of having an "obsession" with the environment, the main stumbling block in the relationship between Brazil and the United States.
When he took over the government, Bolsonaro aligned himself with the international policy of Donald Trump, and one of the factors of that relationship was the anti-globalist and climate change denial imprint. With that profile, he placed a man linked to agribusiness, such as Ricardo Salles, as Minister of the Environment, but he had to resign for being linked to logging companies that deforested the Amazon.
With Trump in the White House, Bolsonaro had cover to reject a million-dollar G7 fund for the Amazon and strained the relationship with French President Emmanuel Macron. The Amazon is a complex issue for Brazil because it combines its sovereignty with other internationalists who consider it a world heritage site.

Without the support of the United States, Bolsonaro had to accommodate his speech and show a predisposition to address environmental issues after threatening: "when the saliva runs out, you have to have gunpowder."
Now, the Brazilian leader has once again criticized Biden for insisting on environmental issues but considered that "obviously the Biden Government is leftist, and it has an obsession with environmental issues, so that hinders us a little bit. For my part, we are open to talking with the U.S. I admire the people of the United States."
In addition, he said that although he has issues with the American president, he regularly speaks with authorities in the U.S. that seem "concerned" about the growth of the left wing in the Country, in South America, and globally.
Paradoxically, the view of the United States is different, and although it understands the economic and commercial weight of Brazil, it views Bolsonaro's authoritarian advance in the confrontation with regional democratic institutions with concern.
Sources consulted by LPO during the National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's trip, confirmed that Washington is concerned about Bolsonaro's attitudes and mentioned Argentina as a space of political stability and democratic coexistence.
Globo newspaper highlighted that Sullivan's delegation was "astonished" when Bolsonaro said he was going to suffer fraud in the 2022 elections just as Donald Trump did.
Bolsonaro seeks to position himself as Biden's interlocutor on the advance of the left in Latin America. "We share the vision of the issues that exist in Latin America, seeking to preserve democracy in the region."
Bolsonaro is coming off losing a major political battle after Congress rejected the printed vote and accused the Supreme Court of preparing the ground to stop it. As a result, he called on the population to buy rifles "so as not to be enslaved", and to participate in the march of September 7th, on Independence Day.
The President will take advantage of the historic date to repudiate the Supreme Federal Court that investigates him for attacking the electoral system and disseminating false news to the population. In a confrontational and apocalyptic tone, Bolsonaro said that in 2022 three things can happen to him: win the election, die or end up in prison.
