Mexico's Covid Czar: "The country is starting to turn red more intensely"

Mexico reached 108,863 deaths due to coronavirus, and the number of infections rose to 1,156,770 people.

On Friday, December 4, during the afternoon conference at the National Palace, Undersecretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell reported that the number of deaths from coronavirus in Mexico rose from 108,173 to 108,863. He also reported that there are already 1,156,770 confirmed cases (1,144,643 were registered yesterday). In addition, he detailed that there are 852,719 people recovered.

Lopez-Gatell added that 1,420,130 negative cases have been registered. "Nationally, 40% of general hospitalization beds and 34% of beds with ventilators are occupied," said the federal official.

López Gatell explained that Baja California and Zacatecas remain at the highest level of the epidemiological traffic light by Covid-19, that is, in the color red. "The country is beginning to paint itself more intensely," he said. The official said that 24 states are at high risk, another three at moderate level -in the yellow color-; and in the green color there are three states, Veracruz joined this week.

In addition, he warned that 10 entities register the highest risk of going to the Red color of the traffic light, these are Mexico City, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Aguascalientes, Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Queretaro, the State of Mexico and Durango. "They are in their Orange level, but closer to transit to the maximum risk level," he added.
